What Your Candidates Need From Your Recruitment Website

Creating a great candidate user experience will ensure you maximise the amount of time visitors spend on your site but also so they return to your website in the future next time they’re looking for a new position. We’ve accumulated a few key areas you’ll want to focus on in order to give your candidates the best experience possible.

Clear Job Listings Page

As a candidate I want to be able to easily browse and search your job listings. I want to be able to filter them based on job title, job type, specialism, industry, location, salary, and other relevant criteria. Also it’s a great idea to add functionality that allows candidates to share roles with friends and colleagues.

Detailed Job Descriptions

Candidates want to see detailed information about job responsibilities, requirements, a synopsis of the company, list of benefits, hours, options for working remotely and any other relevant information that will help them determine whether they’re a good fit for the role and vice versa.

Application Process

You need a clear and straightforward application process, with easy-to-follow instructions and minimal clicks to get to the point of CV submission.

User Friendly Interface

They want a website that’s easy to navigate and use, a clear navigation bar / menu with an intuitive layout and design.

Mobile First

The majority of your candidates will be scrolling through your website on their mobile phone or tablet. They expect to be able to access job listings and apply for positions easily on their mobile devices, so ensure your website has a mobile first design with desktop as secondary.

Company Information

Candidates may want to learn about your agency, its culture, values, ethics and mission. Also from a potential employee perspective, they'll want to learn about the team, benefits, perks, social side, etc.

Testimonials

Testimonials and reviews from clients & candidates are always a great selling point.

Personalisation

If possible, offer a personalised experience, such as customised job recommendations, the ability to save job searches or receive email alerts for new vacancy openings.

Contact Details

Candidates will of course need a way to contact you, a way for them to reach out and enquire about vacancies so ensure you list office address details, a general email and main switchboard number. Make sure you’ve got the perfect contact us page.

Candidate Referral Scheme

Candidate referral schemes are a great & relatively cost effective way to generate new candidates that are perfect for active roles.

Timesheet & Expenses

If you run a temp agency you may need a section or a separate portal to allow candidates to submit expenses & timesheets.

At the end of the day the best way to work out what your candidates need from your website is to ask a selection of some loyal candidates. Survey them to ensure their wants and needs are met by your new site.
