How To Check Your Recruitment Website’s Jobs Pages Are Google For Jobs Friendly

I was speaking with a potential client recently, a recruitment agency with around 20 staff with a UK & US focus. As part of this we were discussing their current recruitment website and I put together a list of current issues and improvements they could make. One of these issues was that their jobs were not Google for Jobs compatible, which came as a big surprise to their marketing director. They had been told from their previous website design agency that their jobs were in fact Google for Jobs compatible. When the marketing director confronted the agency, he was simply told that this was a mistake on the design agency’s part. Years wasted of not having their jobs listed on Google for Jobs. And also a lesson in using a design agency who doesn’t have any web developers on staff.
As a quick preface Google for Jobs is a free to use tool from Google. Permitting that your website is using the correct structured data schema then Google will automatically scrape your jobs from your agency’s website. It's great for free advertising. Google recently scrapped their paid Google Job Ads but I just think this is a temporary suspension until the recruitment markets pick back up and while they focus on their AI related tools.
We've written a quick blog post on how to check if your vacancies are being listed on Google for Jobs. There are two primary ways you can check.
Firstly, simply pick one of your displayed jobs. I'd suggest picking a vacancy that has been listed on your website for a couple of weeks just to make sure Google has had time to list it. Then take the job title and its location and type this into Google. For example, “sales director Ipswich”. Now scroll through the listings and see if your job is listed there. This is a little time consuming but you’ll be able to see how your listed job looks on the platform. There is a much quicker way to check.
Secondly, you can simply copy the URL of one of your job posts and paste into it Google’s Rich Text Result to see if it is compatible and subsequently eligible to be listed. If the result is fine then it should be listed on Google for Jobs.
