In 2012 I set up Media Square Recruitment, a recruitment agency focused on finding the best sales people for digital media owners, advertising networks and exchanges. In 2013 I commissioned an ex-colleague to build my new website and he did a brilliant job! Within a few months the website ranked as the first result for all relevant search terms and was even listed as a Google definition for a selection of queries. It was a well made website with great content, brilliant SEO, that was regularly updated and supported by some strong back links. 

Over the span of my career I’ve sold print & digital advertising space to recruitment agencies and worked for several recruitment firms within the media, marketing & advertising sector as a recruitment consultant. I ran my own recruitment agency for 6 years. I launched a job board in 2017, once again focused on the media sector. And I’ve also worked for in-house talent acquisition teams for advertising agencies, content marketing agencies and international media owners.

At the start of the pandemic I retrained and taught myself all I could on front end web development, HTML. CSS and JavaScript before landing my first software development role for a fin-tech. I then moved onto developing enterprise level recruitment software, used by some of the largest recruitment agencies around the world. 

I started Abstraction Labs in February 2023 as I felt a lot of recruitment agency websites were lacking when it came to design and performance, serviced by a limited number of digital design agencies with little direct experience of the recruitment market and website development, often taking credit for work that was out-sourced abroad. 

We build websites with the Google developed Angular front end framework, which is used in several Google products such as Google Cloud Platform, Google Adwords, Firebase, Google Domains and in over 2000 other Google products.

All the front end code is written in HTML 5, SCSS and Typescript (a souped up, type safe version of JavaScript). This is all supported in the back end by Google Firebase, giving us a fast and secure platform for authentication, authorisation and storage.
